GRUNDOMAT soil displacement technique

The pneumatically driven hammers work according to the soil displacement method, when moving forward the spoil is displaced into the surrounding soil. A channel is produced into which socket less short or long pipes up to OD 160 made of plastic (PE, PVC or PE-X) or cables can be pulled in. Depending on the type of soil, lengths of up to 30 m can either be pulled in simultaneously or later. A compressor with 6 - 7 bar operating pressure is required for this, with exact alignment of the machine towards the target necessary for high on- target accuracy.

THE 2-STROKE PRINCIPLE

With the proven 2-stroke principle, the precise target accuracy, as well as the exact alignment and adjustment are achieved through the two stroke impact method.
On the first stroke, the whole moving head assembly is propelled forward as the piston accelerates and impacts against the rear of the chisel driving it forward to create a pilot bore hole. As the piston then returns, the second stroke, the compressed spring in the head further pulls the long cylindrical casing into the previously made pilot bore hole.
Should an ‘obstacle’ be encountered and forward propulsion hindered, the chisel/crowned head in the reciprocating head will continue ‘chiselling’ independently until the obstruction is fragmented and displaced.

This makes the GRUNDOMAT achieve on- target results even in stony grounds

GRUNDOMATN: VERSATILE APPLICATION

  • UNDERCROSSINGS
Road crossings and property service connections are everyday tasks for the GRUNDOMATN hammer.
  • PIPE RAMMING FROM MODEL 130
GRUNDOMATNcan also be used for ramming in steel pipes by attaching a special ram cone to the head of the machine.
  • PIPE BURSTING FROM MODEL95
Modified soil displacement hammers are also applicable for pipe renewal using the pipe bursting method.
  • PILING
Grundomats are also ideal for vertical use, e.g. piling for laying foundations.

PROPERTY SERVICE CONNECTIONS -
DIRECTLYFROM INSIDE THE BUILDING

When house connections for gas, water, sewage, electricity, broadband cabling (FTTB) can start directly from the property. A start trench outside the property wall is no longer necessary. This makes the use even more efficient, and the front garden is spared.

for FTTB, gas, water and power property service connections
  • Minimal set-up times mean the soil displacement hammer can be started from inside the building after the core bore through the wall
  • A wall duct is set up on the inside and seals off the basement wall from the outside and inside.
  • The Grundomat and equipment fits into a small transporter van

GRUNDORAM - The dynamic ramming technique

GRUNDORAM pneumatically driven pipe ramming machines are used for the dynamic installation of steel pipes underneath roads, waterways, railway tracks, parks, etc. over lengths of up to 80 m. The TT ramming technology provides thrust forces up to 40.000 Nm, enabling the economic installation of open end steel pipes up to 4000 mm diameter in soil classes 1 - 5 (in part even class 6 - easily soluble rock) without the need for jacking abutments.

The steel pipe ramming technique is suitable for installing longitudinally or spirally welded pipes, seamless pipes and pipes with insulation protection as product pipes, e.g. in pipeline construction, or as casing pipes for supply und drainage pipe bundles. The pipe rammers are also used horizontally for constructing underpasses, small outlets, pipe roofs for tunnel structures, for supporting HDD bores (HDD Assist) with vertical applications being used for foundations, sheet piling or well drilling.

GRUNDODRILL HDD technique

‘Mole technology’ is widely-used in the civil engineering. Its share compared to open trenching is ever increasing because the underground installation and renewal of supply and (disposal) pipes bears major technical and economical advantages.

These advantages are due to excavation and re-instatement work being almost omitted and the short construction times and show especially when producing property service connections and when crossing much frequented roads.

Trenchless installation protects the environment. That means: no surface disruption, no problems with inhabitants, minimal excavation, less construction machines plus avoidance of traffic jams, diversions and repair work, as well as low emission of noise, (CO2) and fine dust particles.

ADVANTAGES

  • 7 powerful machine types
  • The slim design allows drilling with minimal clearance to buildings
  • High corrosion protection, e.g. due to fully galvanised rod boxes
  • The engine hood is made of weather-proof GRP
  • The electronics are shock- and vibration-proof
  • High quality manufacturing and certified supplier components (motors, pumps etc.)
  • Highly resilient, fail-safe and service reduced
  • High value stability
  • Wide range of applications
  • Compatible with tensile load measuring unit with bore data log according to the latest standards
  • Additional safety: prototype testing by the trade organisation

GRUNDOCRACK - Dynamic Pipe Bursting

Leaking gas lines due to dried out joints, thick encrustation in water lines, minimising the flow quantity and corrosion in steel pipes, all of these are reasons for the utilities suppliers to replace their over-aged cast iron lines by new HDPE pipes.

The utility companies also have to be on the alert, where sewerage pipes, damaged by corrosion, collapse, misalignment or tree root infestation may lead to sewer leakage or ground water infiltration, thus presenting an environmental risk. The question is: repair, rehabilitation or renewal?

Repair
Pipe damage can be repaired by inserting partial in-liners, milling open and spackling or applying other repair methods. This only makes sense if a durable repair can be achieved.

Rehabilitation
Hose in-liner (CIPP) systems cannot meet the demands where static loads, mechanical resistance, durability and hose migration resistance are concerned, especially if an annulus is produced but not filled up and costs can soar with this method.

Renewal
Renewal of the pipe is often the last resort.

Pipe renewal can no longer be avoided, if

  1. pipe repair / rehabilitation is insufficient or too short-lived to be technically or economically viable
  2. a long service life where an extended pipe performance guarantee is required, or
  3. the position of the pipes are affected

The pipe bursting method means trenchless pipe renewal – with no disruption to the ground surface. Pipe bursting is an uncompromising perfect pipe replacement technique - no repair, no rehabilitation! We distinguish between dynamic and static pipe bursting methods. Both processes are suited for the pressure pipes and sewerage pipes.

Pipe bursting is definitely state of the art technology. It is defined in the German papers ATV-A 125, GW 304 -Pipe jacking- and GW 323 i.E.
